One Tree Hill: Never Combine Business and Pleasure

Submitted on December 21, 2009 No Comment

It is only on One Tree Hill where you would get to realize that fashion and basketball has common features. The common feature in these two is that in both cases there is no chance for indulging in pleasure while on this serious business. You never engage your friends in the business and you should be careful not to befriend the people you have hired in your business ass well. You have your personal life as well as your professional life and these two never go together.

One Tree Hill

This direction never got clear to many of the characters in One Tree Hill. Somehow in the final episodes, we see Clay losing his job, Millie getting on cocaine while Dan getting awesome. Let us reconsider the memo once again and see what it states and the occasions where there was breached of what it requires.

Memo 1: Never get too close to your juniors

This memo was not followed by Brooke Davis way too early in the initial seasons when she became close with Millicent who was her assistant. It was repeated again when Nathan became close to the agent at Jerry Maguire Syndrome replacing his brother Lucas. As you saw, the work relationships of both Nathan and Brooke deteriorated immediately they made the mistakes.

Memo 2: Never attempt to bite more that you can chew

When this was set, it was aimed at helping Clay play for the Bobcats and Millie get more realistic on her modeling career. But, contrary to the advice of Nathan and Brooke, Clay and Millie attempted the opposite. Clay thought that he was doing the best thing for Nathan although he Nathan ended jobless. Lesson is that initiative is never always the best option.

Millie also took more of coke to get skinny an indication that she was insecure but the lesson here is that we should never get personal issues on our professional duties.

One Tree Hill

Memo 3: Never get intimate with your boss’ family or friends

Clay’s decision to get intimate with Quinn who happens to be Nathan’s sister in law and Millie’s intimate relationship with Mouth who is Brooke’s friend is real examples. Because relationships die along the way, you will lose your boss because the cord of employee is not as strong as that of blood or friendship.

Exception which is Dan Scott

Dan Scott is the exception on the rule of never combine business and pleasure. He helps people bring out the best they can be while on his personal life he loves torturing people. Do these two passions agree?

Dan drowned Clay in an ocean just because he screwed his son out of a basketball contract. He did this violently yet he still claimed that it was about God and faith and destiny. He wanted to prove to Clay that he could use his evil skills to transform his life. Because he cannot reunite with his son, he will make his next best move which is to use Clay to surrogate himself.

From One Tree Hill, we learn that when you attempt to combine business and pleasure, you would always lose as in end with broken relationship, lose your job and other sad outcomes. The main lesson is to search for love and friendship outside your profession.
